Their platform simplifies checking sports leaders against criminal records

A new digital platform makes it easier for sports clubs to ensure that their leaders do not have a criminal record. "Children's safety should never depend on carelessness or lack of checks," say Elliot Timander and Emil Andersson, who run the start-up Registercentralen.

All sports clubs are obliged to check that their leaders and officials have no criminal convictions.

At the same time, a survey by Dagens Nyheter shows that a large number of sex offenders have been leaders for children and young people - after they have been convicted.

The Örnsköldsvik company Registercentralen has developed a digital platform that helps sports clubs to administer systematic checks against the police's criminal records.

- "Our solution relieves the association while systematizing the process. And not least, we follow up that it really is done regularly," says Elliot Timander, who runs the company together with his partner Emil Andersson.

Here's how it works

The association registers its current leaders in the Register Center.

The registry center informs the leader to request a certificate from the police and submit it via the platform using Bank ID.

Reminders are sent out via SMS, email and partner Kivra.

The certificate is checked and verified by the Register Center, via an automatic two-step verification. Once approved, the association has full control and oversight over the status of all leaders.

- Because submission, verification and checks are gathered in the system, you get better documentation of who submitted what and when, reducing the risk of someone falling through the cracks, says Elliot Timander.

So far, some 30 associations, including Skellefteå AIK, have signed up for the solution launched in May and more are on the way.

- We are in an intensive phase of marketing and sales. It looks very promising," says Emil Andersson.

The idea for the Register Center was born when they were working on another SaaS (Software as a service) solution to manage substitute teachers in schools.

- The part that was most appreciated was the possibility of background checks. And since we are both active in sports, we went ahead with that track, says Elliot Timander.

Registercentralen is one of the companies in BizMaker's incubator program and has received support for product development from Almi and Region Västernorrland.
