His innovation shuts out unwanted noise

Disruptive noise is annoying whether you are studying or working. Jacob Grape has developed a screen that easily folds up on the table to increase concentration. The aim is to sell the LYD Fokus innovation internationally.

Everyone knows how annoying it is to be disturbed by noise when trying to study or work.

Jacob Grape, who is studying industrial design at Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall, has developed a smart screen that increases concentration.

- "This is something I have struggled with since primary school and thought a lot about how to solve it. The screen fits in a regular bag or backpack and folds up on the table with a simple hand grip," he says.

The screen has three sides and works both on desks and other types of tables, such as in a café.

There are already other types of sound-shielding domes on the market, says Jacob Grape.

- "But my goal is a simpler, more affordable product that can reach more people.

The idea is so good that the jury recently named it as the Bubble of the Year in BizMaker's competition jagharenide.nu in Västernorrland.

- It was very exciting to participate in the competition and both surprised and fun to receive a prize, says Jacob Grape.

The prize consists of a voucher of SEK 10,000 to be used for consulting services from BizMaker's procured suppliers. Together with his advisors at BizMaker and Miun Innovation, he is now thinking about the next step.

- The goal is to finish the basic work when I graduate in June 2024. By then I will have developed a prototype, done a market analysis and started to find customers.

And the goals are very high.

- I aim to start selling the screen in Sweden. Then I want to expand internationally," says Jacob Grape.
