Own niche gave C-con a flying start

C-con is the Övik company that is growing faster than most, thanks to its own market niche and smart strategy. With methodology they developed themselves, they ensure that factories and industries are safe, efficient and modern - by mapping and labeling pipe systems.

In five years,C-con has grown to 15 employees, who now work at the largest industries on the Norrland coast from Iggesund in the south to Skelleftehamn in the north. The market is large, both with the traditional northern industries and new ones, such as Northvolt, where C-con has had a handful of employees on site for a long period.

The inventory and marking of pipes is something that was previously done internally in the industries, but which has increasingly been prioritized when the organizations have been slimmed down. In line with stricter legal requirements and new EU directives, the need for order among the pipes has increased. Here, founder Clas Bergman identified a gap in the industry, and invested fully in filling it and creating his own position in the industrial cycle.

The activity has two main focuses. On the one hand, C-con's technicians inventory the pipe systems in the industries and update the companies' drawings and documentation so that they are correct. Secondly, C-con works to mark the pipes with, for example, warning stickers and flow direction.

- There are big gains to be made for businesses. An updated flowchart makes it much faster and easier to carry out maintenance and repairs. And, perhaps most importantly, serious injuries can be avoided," says CEO Magnus Häggström.

C-con is a young company in several senses. It was founded by Clas Bergman in 2018 and grew quickly, not least after establishing a sales position in 2021. Most employees are between 20 and 26 years old, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds.

- With us, you have a great opportunity to get a quick start in working life. We employ those who are responsible and ambitious. You don't have to have any special education, but you need to have a good command of Swedish and preferably English. We invest a lot in internal training and after 3-4 years you can to some extent do the same job as a technical consultant," says Magnus Häggström.

Throughout the growth journey, C-con has been supported by the regional innovation player BizMaker, which has contributed with both business development and strategy. From finding smart digital solutions to create a corporate culture despite everyone working in different locations, to packaging their offer and creating their own quality systems.

- We work with large companies, and to succeed you have to show that you have a strong team and a well-developed company. Then it works," says Clas Bergman.

Through the BizMaker incubator, C-con has also made contacts with other local companies, leading to collaborations in internal training and quality assurance.

Now C-con is looking at Europe, especially countries with a strong pulp industry such as Finland and Germany.

- Paper pulp is our specialty area and gateway. But we also see a lot happening on the energy side, with Northvolt in Skellefteå and Flagship One and Cinis Fertilizer here in Örnsköldsvik. We are a good team with the right support around us - that whole package is the success," concludes Clas Bergman.
