Adsorbi has developed a breakthrough cellulose material that effectively traps air pollutants - on average three times better than current methods.
Today, air filters are often made with fossil carbon, while bio-based alternatives are mainly made from coconuts transported long distances. The market lacks fossil-free, European alternatives - a gap Adsorbi is now ready to fill.
Adsorbi's mission is clear: to enable clean air with minimal environmental impact. During the fall and winter, Adsorbi has participated in BizMakers Forest Business Accelerator, an accelerator that gives startups with a forestry connection the opportunity to develop and test their business models.
The program, run by BizMaker in collaboration with SCA, IBM and RISE, offers unique access to expertise and resources from leading players in fossil-free solutions and innovative forestry. For Adsorbi, this has meant a chance to strengthen its product and create new collaborations.
- The accelerator program has helped us build the right network, test different fiber sources for our material and know who to contact in different parts of the value chain," says Hanna Johansson.
EUR 1 million secures next steps
The company has recently closed an investment round and secured €1 million in funding. The capital will be used to build a pilot plant, planned to be launched in July 2025.
- From previously producing on a small scale, we can now handle production in tons. This is a crucial step for our growth," says Hanna Johansson, CEO of Adsorbi.
In December 2024, Adsorbi also launched a consumer product. In collaboration with SmellWell and IceBug, they have developed a new generation of Freshener Inserts - an innovation to keep shoes and sports equipment fresher for longer.
In the coming year, Adsorbi will focus on launching the pilot production, scaling up and finding partners in new customer segments.
- "We are actively looking for more customers in air purification and are open to new collaborations. Our technology has the potential to solve problems in several industries," says Hanna Johansson.
